MickTheBrick, the difference mainly comes into play during heavy off-road conditions. For city driving, the benefits of 4WD won’t be as noticeable compared to AWD.

Not all AWD systems are built the same. Some performance AWD vehicles might surprise you, but true, they’re no match for a proper 4WD in the wild.

Interesting point, Ronnie. The advancements in AWD technology, especially with torque vectoring, do indeed put some AWD vehicles on par with traditional 4WD setups for certain applications.

Makes me wanna get one and hit the road less traveled!

AWD is fine for the city slickers, but when you’re miles from civilization, 4WD is king.

lol slickricky, yeah stick to the pavements. off-roading is a whole different beast, not for sports cars for sure.

Not all AWD systems are created equal, and many can outperform traditional 4WD setups in certain situations. It’s all about the right tool for the right job.

It’s like comparing a scalpel to a machete, both have their place. Well put together article, Paul.

However, wouldn’t the fuel efficiency of 4WD in low-range settings be highly dependent on the terrain and driving style? Curious about your thoughts on this.
